Cutting a horse trail on your land

A trail system provides many recreational opportunities for the rural homeowner. In addition to creating a space for hiking, biking, and nature observation, a trail system lets you enjoy a leisurely ride with your equine companion. The process of creating your own trail can be quite time consuming, however, especially if you need to remove trees and other debris in order to clear the path. Remember that the weight of your horse may tear up the ground and contribute to increased soil erosion. It's also a good idea to plan the location of your trail so that access points are spaced in a way that will discourage vandalism.
