EAZI-BREED CIDR Sheep Inserts
U.S. sheep producers now have access to an approved reproductive management tool, EAZI-BREED CIDR Sheep Inserts from Pfizer Animal Health.
Each insert contains 0.3 gram of the naturally occurring hormone progesterone. The insert releases progesterone at a controlled rate, and when removed helps provide an opportunity to induce estrus during seasonal anestrus.
EAZI-BREED CIDR Sheep Inserts will allow producers to breed ewes out of season, allowing producers to manage their lamb production and take advantage of peak market prices.
Dr. Keith Inskeep, a professor at West Virginia University, helped conduct the research to bring this product to market, and is excited about the opportunities this product will provide sheep producers. It is wonderful to finally see a product available that can deliver progesterone to enhance the effect of introduction of the ram as a tool to breed ewes out of season, said Inskeep. The data are clear that it is effective in a variety of breeds and environments, and during both spring and summer. The sheep industry has needed this product to make fresh American lamb meat and sheep cheeses available to consumers year round on a reliable basis.
