Happy 50th Birthday to Bob today! He is feeling all of his years this morning, as he got little sleep over the weekend. Our ewes started popping out babies on Friday and haven’t stopped. The barn is full, and includes a set of quads! That sounds like a good thing, but it really isn’t because two of them are as tiny as salt shakers and weak. Bob is stomach tubing them to keep them alive. Cross your fingers.
Yesterday I had a family party for Bob at noon. Everyone arrived at the restaurant, but where was the guest of honor? In a pasture trying to pull a dead calf from a cow owned by a good client. After hours of work, the cow had to be put down. Very disappointing.
Bob was two hours late for his dinner, but we all had a nice time telling old family stories while we waited at the restaurant. And then everyone came back to the farm to see the baby lambs.
It was the classic day in the life of a country vet: Birth and Death.
Cheers to you, Doc!
