Last night Bob and I helped his dad, LaVerne, clean up from the storm on Monday morning. Winds clocked at 110 mph swept along a 10-mile-wide stretch along Highway 30 from central Iowa all the way across Illinois and into Michigan. Farmers like Jon Edler, pictured in a corn field with his farm on the hill in the distance, lost up to half their corn from green snap, where the corn breaks off near the ground. Grain bins were destroyed and tossed into the fields. Jon gave me a tour of his farm where they lost a huge machine shed and several bins. What a mess.
