What is that old jar worth?

January 6, 2012

Bob has been collecting canning jars since he was a teenager and helped tear down and remodel a couple of old homes. The jars have been sitting in our attic and basement for 25 years. I think he once hoped he would marry someone who canned like his mom did. No such luck.
Last month he was treating cattle at the Labertew farm and found out that Karla Labertew was a real collector. He figured she would appreciate the jars more than he did, so he gave them to her.
She sent him a detailed report, including this info:
There were three pint jars that were manufactured between 1923-1933, two jars that were made from 1910-1923, and one jar that was produced in the years 1896-1910. Those six jars might be worth $5-10 a piece.
In exchange, she sent us some of her canned goods, including peaches, bread & butter pickles, and the most delicious elderberry jam. It was a good trade.
