Organizing a shed

Plan ahead

Radio interview source: Doug Walker, owner, Storage Sheds Outlet

My husband, Bob, just built a neat set of shelves and cabinets for his safety gear in our shed. He has to organize stuff like goggles, ear protection, and gloves. He also has a huge, rolling metal set of drawers for nails and tools. He very carefully planned out what he needed to build.

That's the key to having a shed that actually serves its purpose without becoming a junk pile. Before you even hang one shelf, have a clear picture of what it is you're storing. Then break it down into the accessories you'll need to organize it all.

Doug Walker is the owner of a storage shed business and has a favorite.

"There's one tool rack called the Ultra Hold Tool Organizer by Crawford Lehigh, which is a really slick one," Walker says. "It's aluminum, can hold about 10 pounds on each hook and is easy to stick . You can get a lot of stuff out of the way with that and still have space in your shed for other things."

It's even better if a tool holder has clamps on a track so they can be moved around to accommodate the different sizes.
