If your home is starting to feel drafty, it's time to invest in a tube of caulking and a caulk gun. In addition to keeping your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, plugging exterior cracks will help make sure no insects or rodents decide to pay an unexpected visit. Low-cost latex caulk comes in a range of colors to match your exterior, but remember to clean the area thoroughly before applying the caulk in order to ensure strong adhesion. Hold the gun at a 45-degree angle and try to avoid unnecessary stops and starts. For best results, the caulk should be forced into the crack in one continuous motion.
