  • Skate in the Park

    Take advantage of the cold weather and go ice skating for some fun and fresh air. A day of skating makes for the perfect family outing (or date night)!

  • Snowshoe

    Snowshoeing is easy, inexpensive and a good workout. What began long ago as a mode of transportation is now a recreational sport -- perfect for a social activity or enjoying snowy scenes in solitude.

  • Try a Fat-Tire Bike

    The 4-inch wide tires on these bikes let cyclists practically float through snow. Fat-tire bikes can be rented at many local outfitters and they are great for a ride across your favorite hiking trail.

  • Trek to the Ice Caves

    Prepared hikers can set out to explore the spectacular formations that drape caves across the country. Epic ice formations and frozen, walkable lakes can be found at Wisconsin's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan, Granite Falls in Washington, and at almost any waterfall near you.

  • Hit the Slopes

    Have some fast fun on a ski outing. Head to a nearby resort to whiz down steep slopes, or opt for a calmer day by cross-counry skiing through local terrain.

  • Be Goal-Oriented

    Grab your hockey sticks, head to the pond and lace up your skates for a game of ice hockey. Set up goals and use spray bottles filled with food-colored water to create a realistic outdoor rink. A good game under the open sky will make warming up with a mug of hot chocolate afterwards that much sweeter.
