Indianola, IA National Balloon Classic

Each year Indianola, Iowa hosts the National Balloon Classic. The skies are filled with color as hot air balloons take to the skies and participate in competitive ballooning. Pilots race their balloons in the 5k/10k race which ends at the balloon field near Indianola. This year marks the 43rd year that Indianola hosts the event in which dedicated pilots come from all around the nation and worldwide to take part in the festivities.   • We have liftoff!

  • Nite-Glow Extravaganza

    When dusk approaches, the balloons gather at the foot of the balloon field and specatators gaze upon the blazing glory as pilots ignite their burners in synchronization. It is a beautiful sight to see, but don't get too close!

  • Nite-Glow

    Spectators have the option during the Nite-Glow to come see the balloons up close and visit with the pilots and crew. It is a delightful way to close the ceremonies for the evening with glowing balloon orbs. For more information about the National Balloon Classic visit their website.
