Handmade Seed Packets

Share your garden bounty with family and friends by passing along some of your favorite seeds in handcrafted seed packets adorned with garden-theme photos. Simple seed packets are easy to make using folded cardstock. We embellished our packets with vintage photos, but any type of image will work. Follow these five steps to create them.

  • Step Two

    Create the seed packet template: Draw a 6-inch square onto a piece of cardstock and cut it out. Trim three of the corners. For easy folding, snip a small triangular notch midway between each of the corners.

  • Step Three

    Place the seed packet template on the cardstock with the photocopied image centered under the template. (The pointed corner of the template indicates the top of the seed packet.) Trace the template onto the cardstock.

  • Step Four

    Cut out the cardstock seed packet. With the photocopied image facing down, fold up the bottom flap, then fold in the side flaps. Secure the seams with several dots of glue. Let the glue dry.

  • Step Five

    Fill the packet with seeds. Seal the top flap with several dots of glue. Once the glue dries, attach a tag to the packet using a piece of yarn. Label the tag with the plant name, the year the seeds were collected, and the plant’s growing information.
