Ice Cream Cone Birdseed Ornaments

Spruce up a small evergreen or discarded Christmas tree with these fun decorations for the birds. Trimming an outdoor tree with edible ornaments for birds provides a win-win in the winter survival game. Hungry birds benefit from nutritious seeds, fruits, nuts, and other treats festooning the branches of an evergreen tree. They also find shelter in the tree, huddling away from frigid wind, rain, or other harsh weather.
  • Birdseed Cone Materials

To make this ice cream cone filled with a treat for birds, you'll need:

    • Suet cake
    • Cake ice cream cones
    • Ice cream scoop
    • Birdseed
    • Cranberries
    • Twine
    • Scissors

  • Prepare Suet Cake

Mix up a homemade suet cake in a mixing bowl. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 2 cups suet, 2 cups birdseed, 1 cup cornmeal, and 1/2 cup peanut butter. Heat in a microwave for about 30 seconds to soften the fats. Stir to blend. (Alternately, purchase ready-made suet cakes for birds and soften in microwave).
