Let nature lead the way

Whether for exercise or just to enjoy the scenery, a walking trail is a great addition to your acreage. My friend, Mike Gedler, cleared a walking trail around his property that leads from the gardens behind his house to a picnic area on a hill, then around a grove of trees. He followed a path that nature carved out for him.

"I was walking down the hill one day and I just kind of saw a natural trail going that way," Gedler says. "I didn't know if it was a deer trail or a rabbit trail, but something was definitely walking around back here. I thought it would be neat if I could make my trail so that I could look around and see some wildlife, and maybe find out what was making that trail."

It took some sweat, a pair of clippers, and a lawnmower to clear out everything in the way. Some people need a chain saw and brush mower to cut out thick vegetation.
