How to build a retaining wall

Living the Counry Life Radio Program

Retaining walls that hold back soil or rock from an area can be a wonderful addition to your landscaping. While the walls are often attractive, they also work to help prevent soil erosion and provide support for vertical or near-vertical grade changes. Although there are plenty of landscaping companies that will be happy to construct your retaining wall, doing it yourself is another option to consider. If you decide to tackle the project on your own, remember to use a base material instead of simply plopping the wall directly into ground. Just as your house needs a strong foundation, a retaining wall must have a firm base that will prevent the dirt beneath from shifting.
