This couple turned eroded land on their acreage into a water paradise.
Soothing stream

Attracting birds

After Mike and Vikki Tomlinson built their home in the hills near Roanoke, Virginia, Vikki took the rugged eroded ground and turned it into cascading waterfalls, bubbling brooks, and peaceful ponds. All that water attracted multitudes of birds. Trouble was, she had no idea what type of birds were stopping by, so she made up names like upside-down birds (nuthatches), Batman birds (Cedar waxwings), mini-road runners (brown thrashers), and calico birds (towhees). She finally bought a bird book and is now an avid birder.
