Putting down horse manure

Living the Country Life Radio Program

Horses earn their keep by the pleasure they bring, but they can also help out in the garden. A 1,000-pound horse can generate 8 to 10 tons of manure a year, and spreading that manure in the winter can mean bigger flowers and vegetables come spring and summer. Other times of the year, you'll need to "age" the manure before applying it. Listen to Living the Country Life on the radio for instructions on how to do that.

Radio interview source: Doug Jimerson, garden editor, Better Homes & Gardens
