Slow-cooker meals

Living the Country Life Radio Program

Nothing says "welcome home" like walking in the door to the scent of a simmering pot roast with carrots and potatoes. Thanks to slow cookers, that type of warm, comforting meal doesn't have to be reserved for the weekends. With just a little know-how and some planning ahead, everyone can come home to a hearty and delicious meal that's ready to eat when you are. Bon appetit!

Radio interview source: Lynn Blanchard, director, Better Homes & Gardens Test Kitchen

Here are some useful resources for anyone interested in using a slow cooker:

Crockery cooking: The experts at BHG.com have everything you need to know about using a slow cooker, from make-ahead tips, to secrets to success, to advice for cleaning your cooker. And of course, they have tons of delicious recipes to try.

The season's best slow-cooker recipes: Beat the winter chill with 18 must-try recipes from Better Homes & Gardens, including mixed berry crumble, brown rice risotto with lamb, chicken and shrimp jambalaya, and more.

3-in-1 slow cooker: As mentioned in the radio show, this cooker from Hamilton Beach (pictured above) has three different stoneware inserts, with 2-, 4-, and 6-quart cooking capacities. The crocks nest for storage, and they all use the same lid.
