Sweet strawberries!

My favorite recipes from my favorite people.

Pages in this Story:

Srawberry farm memories

I grew up on a strawberry farm in Maryland and spent every June hoeing weeds, picking berries, and helping customers. As a teenager, I grew tired of the work but never tired of eating the produce. Mom's strawberry shortcake was always a treat after a day in the fields.

I asked Mom to share her favorite strawberry recipes with you. The Cottage Pudding recipe has been in our family for more than 100 years. If you are a pie lover, Mom's Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is heavenly. You can find additional recipes and learn more about my parent's strawberry farm at www.strawberryfarm.com.

To find a pick-your-own farm near you, visit the North American Strawberry Growers Association at www.nasga.org and click on Find a Grower.

When you head out to the patch, keep in mind that strawberries do not ripen after they are picked. They may turn red, but they won't get any sweeter. Once you get them home, use them immediately or store them in the refrigerator. Do not wash or hull strawberries until you are ready to use them. Have fun picking!
