The Ultimate UTV Evaluation 2013

Discover the best utility vehicle for your acreage.

For four days in 2013 our team of 12 experienced riders put eight of the newest UTVs through their paces in the Successful Farming and Living the Country Life Ultimate UTV Evaluation. Each machine was run on trails through the flat fields, rolling rangeland, and narrow mountain pathways on Little Goose Ranch in Wyoming. For part of the test the machines were run unloaded, and then they were loaded with one-half of the manufacturer’s cargo weight.

After each trail ride, evaluators completed an extensive evaluation form ranking performance by 12 key categories: access to engine and transmission; location of controls and gauges; ease of shifting transmission; ease of engaging four-wheel drive, differential lock; steering responsiveness and maneuverability; acceleration; ease of maintaining a constant speed; braking; noise level; overall rider comfort; cargo and storage; and general fit and finish.

The machines tested had 700- to 900-cc. gas engines, with the exception of two larger, diesel UTVs. Click on the links below to learn more about each machine, including rider feedback and specifications.
