John Deere Maintenance Monday: Lights on the road

In this edition of Maintenance Monday, we're answering a question from Tim in Ohio who just bought a used tractor. He'll be driving it on the road quite a bit this fall and wonders if it's equipped with the right lighting for travel. Daylight is getting shorter, and many people have to do their chores after work in the evening. This means there are a lot of tractors and implements on the road at night.
John Deere Marketing Representative Jason Breuer says equipment traveling on the road have turn signals, brakes and lights. The tractor will need flashing lights if you'll be out on the road at night, or driving in conditions with reduced visibility, like heavy fog. You also have to make sure the lights can be seen by other vehicles.
"For example if you have a tractor with a cab, almost the highest point on the cab will have the yellow flashing lights to warn oncoming traffic or traffic behind you and to be sure it will be above the implement that you're towing," Breuer says.
Sometimes the implement is taller than the tractor lights, so that has to be taken into consideration, too.
