John Deere Maintenance Monday: Tractor repair tools

Living the Country Life Radio Program with Betsy Freese

Nothing fancy needed

Radio interview source: Richard Kershner, product manager, John Deere

In this edition of Maintenance Monday, we're answering a question from Pete in Nebraska. He'll be buying a compact tractor soon, and plans to do a lot of his own maintenance on it. He wonders what tools he should have on hand.

John Deere Product Manager Richard Kershner says you don't need to have a lot of specialty tools to maintain tractors. Just the basics will get you by.

"Some great tools that you should have in your tool box when you own a John Deere compact utility tractor will be an oil filter wrench, a grease gun, a volt or an ohm meter, a fuse extraction tool, and a metric wrench set and a metric socket set," Kershner says.

The deeper you get into repairs, the more specialty tools you'll need. But for most people, these few items will get the job done.
