John Deere Maintenance Monday: How is John Deere "green"?

Living the Country Life Radio Program with Betsy Freese

Radio interview source: Dan Paschke, product manager, John Deere

In this edition of Maintenance Monday, we're answering a question from Becky in Texas. She's asking if John Deere tractors are considered "green" tractors ... or are they just painted green?

John Deere Product Manager Dan Paschke says the company is well underway to making the tractors run green. It recently announced plans to further reduce total global greenhouse gas emissions within the next six years.

This goal is in conjunction with Deere's participation in the EPA's Climate Leaders program. Paschke says this year, certain horse-powered diesel engines need what is called "Interim Tier-4" compliance.

"Interim Tier-4 is pretty tough regulations to meet in terms of the amount of emissions we're putting into the environment," Paschke says. "And we are in full compliance with that, we're working through that process right now, and we've got a team of engineers that work around the clock to make sure that our tractors comply with the EPA standards."

While adhering to standards, they're also trying to build as much fuel efficiency into their products as possible.
