Cem (pronounced Gem--named after a Turkish friend) was pulled from his Mom at 1am on a night when it was 11 degrees. Carole Jean (named after my mother) had been in labor about 5 hours--we tried pulling him out once we were able to catch her and tie her up, but had to call my brother-in-law, who had to pick up the chains for pulling a calf up. It took the strength of two men to pull this calf--but mother and baby are doing just fine. It was 11 degrees as I said and he was too tired to stand, so we gave him some colostrum and bundled him up and the guys cuddled with him to keep him warm. This was Carole Jean's first calf.
