If you live in a cold climate and you're worried about the health of your fish during the winter months, windmill pond aeration may be the answer. Instead of pumping water out in the manner you would associate with a traditional windmill, these surprisingly cost-effective pond aeration systems pump air into your pond to provide your fish with additional oxygen. They also prevent stagnation problems and keep your pond open throughout the winter. Most windmills only require a three-to-five mile per hour wind to operate. Many windmills even come with controls that are able to automatically compensate for stronger wind velocity.
