Cheap heat

Try an alternative method of heating your space this winter. Waste oil and mixed-fuel burners use cheap, accessible fuels to create a warm workshop.

Pages in this Story:

The days are now growing colder, and you may be thinking about the increasing cost of heating your shop. But heating your shop doesn't have to catch your checking account on fire. Heating methods, such as waste oil burners and mixed-fuel burners, may be economical, efficient ways to warm your space with resources that are close to home. Find a model approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and enjoy cheap, warm productivity.

Waste oil burners

A waste oil burner is a great way to reduce escalating energy prices while efficiently consuming your used oils. They generally pay for themselves in 12 to 18 months. It is figured that 500 to 1,000 gallons of waste oil are all you'll need to save thousands of dollars each year. Acceptable fuels include vegetable oils, cooking oils, used motor oils, hydraulic oils, used transmission fluid, and combustible synthetic oils, among others. Using these oils also cuts the cost of hauling them off of your property.

Burning waste oil to obtain cheap heat is also an environmentally friendly way to assist in reducing pollution. By turning a waste product into a valuable fuel, you help to conserve natural energy sources and to protect water and soil resources from oil pollution.

Emissions are similar to burning standard fuel oil, and on-site recycling reduces the chance of accidental spills, improper disposal, and vehicle emissions generated during transport.

Additionally, the liability for proper disposal of used oils extends from the moment it drains into your oil pan until it's processed or burned, including any accidental spills or intentional dumping. By burning your used oil in burners meeting EPA standards, you reduce the cradle-to-grave liability.

Similarly, a waste oil boiler heats the used oil under pressure in a closed vessel with the same cost and conservation benefits as a burner.
