Calling utilities before digging

Living the Country Life Radio Program

Whether you're planting a tree or adding a fence to your property, it's smart to call your local utility company before you dig. With just two to three days notice, they can mark your property to help you avoid hitting any underground lines. Although many people think this free call is only necessary for major home improvements, even a small hole can cause a big problem if it's located in the wrong spot. You could cut off power to the entire neighborhood or cause serious personal injury. You may even face legal action if the company decides to sue in order to recover the cost of repairs.
