Myths and truths about coyotes

Living the Country Life Radio Program

Although they might seem intimidating, coyotes actually possess a natural fear of humans. They rarely attack people and will generally just run away when approached. In fact, since they are opportunistic eaters, coyotes can be useful at controlling rodents around your farm. However, they can also pose a threat to cats, dogs, and livestock. To prevent problems with coyotes, eliminate all outside food sources, clean up wood or brush piles, and do not allow your pets to roam freely across your property, especially at night. Playing a tape recording of coyotes howling may convince the intruder to move along, but hunting and trapping can also be used as a last resort.
