Snake ID and control
Living the Country Life Radio Program
When you live in the country, you're going to encounter wildlife. When that wildlife comes in snake form, your first instinct might be to grab a shovel and do away with it. Listen to today's program to learn which snakes are harmless, which are poisonous, and how to safely get rid of them.
Radio interview source: Brian MacGowan, Extension wildlife specialist, Purdue University

I live out in the high desert of Mojave CA. This spring there was alot of rain and so now alot of weeds. On the way out to feed my horse last Monday I came upon a Mojave Green Rattlesnake that was being killed by the groundsquirrels! I never thought the squirrels had a purpose. So now I don't trap and relocate the squirrels anymore. They are welcome here. Had they not killed the snake, I very possibly could have been bitten.
